Why collective protection should come first
PPE depends on human behavior — someone can forget it, wear it wrong, or take it off out of discomfort. Collective protection doesn’t depend on any of that: once properly installed, it protects on its own. That’s exactly why the technical priority is always to pursue collective protection before relying on PPE alone.
It needs attention too
Collective protection isn’t “install and forget” — it needs periodic inspection, because if it fails, the risk comes back for everyone exposed at once, not just one person.
Don’t cut it for savings
Removing collective protection just to save money, without real technical justification, is a dangerous call — and it can cost far more later.
